Why Gun Ownership Should Be More Restricted

I think that gun ownership should be more restricted. Everybody knows that owning a gun is a major responsibility, and some people don’t use guns for the right things. Some people use guns to hurt others, and everybody knows that is one of the biggest problems in our societies. Something needs to change.

On the news recently, there have been many shootings, and many people have been killed or injured.  Many of these incidents could have been prevented if the offender didn’t have a gun in the first place. I think that it some more precautions could have been taken so that this couldn’t have happened.

For example, recently there was a shooting in Whangarei and 3 people were killed/injured. Every year more than 100,000 people in America alone are killed in attacks involving guns, and plenty are injured. Around the world, there have been lots of attacks and acts of terrorism that could have been prevented if perhaps, the gun wasn’t in the offender’s possession in the first place. Or maybe, something could be done about the guns themselves to make them more secure.

There are many solutions I can think of to prevent shootings, but they would be quite difficult to carry out, and probably very expensive. One solution I can think of, is maybe all guns could require fingerprint sensors, and only approved fingerprints in the database could be accepted for the gun to shoot. The fingerprint sensor could be located in the trigger, so that way every shot could be secure. I know that this would be very expensive, and take a long time to figure out, but it would certainly solve all of our problems if carried out correctly. I also think that only people with NO criminal record should be allowed to shoot a gun. This way, we can trust gun users a little bit more.

I think that the age to be allowed to physically shoot a gun should rise to age 21. I don’t think children should be allowed to use guns because children cannot always be trusted. You never know what kids are going to do, and younger children don’t really think about things, they just act on impulse.

Overall, I think that guns are one of, if not the most dangerous weapons in our society. Something needs to be done about this issue, to prevent any more fatalities from occurring. The world would definitely be a much happier and safer place.
