Casement

The word “casement” has three meanings, all around windows. The first meaning is “a window or part of a window that is set on a vertical hinge so it opens like a door”. The second is: “a window of any kind”. It also means “the sash of a sash window”. In short, casement means window. The word casement comes from the Latin word “capsa”, meaning a box. It comes from late Middle English and was most commonly used in the 1920’s to 30’s. The word initially stopped being used in the 70’s. However, the word is being used more often now than it was in the 70’s to 80s.
