GymSport Waikato

I was nervous the whole way there. But as we pulled into the driveway, the nerves really kicked in, like a punch to the stomach. Just four days ago, I had been told that I qualified to compete in the Waikato Regional GymSport Competition for the years 7-8. For the past few days, I had practised and practised relentlessly. I practised until I felt I had my routine the best it could be.

We walked in, and we could see that the people here were way more professional than us. They were all wearing makeup, their hair was immaculate, and the leotards they were wearing were beautiful. We stood there, dressed in our school uniforms and tights, looking very different to most of the people around us. However, although we weren’t as professional as everybody else in the room, we weren’t terrible. We could do the routines to high standards, and that was what got us where we were.

We were all called down to do a warmup. We did our own stretches, and then we all did an aerobics routine. Everyone around us was doing all these fancy stretches, so we just sort of copied them to look even a little bit professional.

My first apparatus was the vault. We got two practices, and then it was the real things. The butterflies in my stomach had decided to start exercising - I was so nervous. My practices were alright, but I could have done better. Next was my real thing. I think I did the best I could possibly do. My legs were straight and I pointed my toes, and I didn’t wobble.

My second was the beam. I was super nervous about the beam because it was really really high! I practised and practised my beam over and over until it was finally my turn to perform. I bounced on the springboard. I mounted, but then I fell off. I think I made it look like I didn’t fall, but I’m not sure. I hopped back on, and I did my beam the best I could. I wobbled a bit, but I think I did a good job.

Next was floor. I practised my routine non-stop for a solid half hour before it was my turn to perform. I think I nailed it. However, I might have gone a little too fast. But otherwise, I think I did really well.

I didn’t expect to place. I only really came for the experience, which was an amazing one. I especially loved seeing all the amazing things people could do, and I sure hope that I can do something like that some day! If I could, I would definitely do it again!

My Song

My favourite food is
Doritos
So thankful for them, it’s such a blessing yeah
Taste amazing everyday yeah
Oh oh
They are, my saviour on the darkest day
Got me eating them all day
Make me wanna eat them all quickly, quickly
The four square made them cost a lot of money
Three dollars eighty makes me broke
I need money so
The only words I wanna hear
Doritos are on special

Yeah
I love Doritos more than Bluebird
Cheese supreme is the way to go
The blue ones are just a bad decision
Oh ya, ya no one really cares about Marvel
Especially not those galaxy weirdos
So just don’t buy the blue Doritos

(Chorus)
Doritos
I really really really love Doritos
Sometimes I like to sit on Doritos
You just can’t beat the cheesy taste of Doritos
Doritos
I really really really love Doritos
Sometimes I like to sit on Doritos
You just can’t beat the cheesy taste of Doritos
I really really love Doritos
You can’t beat Doritos
I just want you to know
Doritos are my favourites
Cheesy cheesy cheesy cheese
I love Doritos
I really really love Doritos
They are my favourites
You can’t beat my Doritos

The nacho cheese Doritos
Aren’t really that bad
Kinda really spicy
Not my favourites though
Cheese supreme Doritos are yum yum
Really really really really really really yum yum
I’ve never tried the Thai Sweet Chilli
Maybe maybe maybe maybe some day
But I will always always
Be in love with cheese supreme Doritos

Doritos doritos, I love Doritos
Just not the blue ones, it’s obvious
Because my favourite flavour
Will always be cheese supreme
Don’t kid around on the subject of Doritos

Doritos doritos, I love Doritos
Just not the blue ones, it’s obvious
Because my favourite flavour
Will always be cheese supreme
Don’t kid around on the subject of Doritos

(Chorus)
Doritos
I really really really love Doritos
Sometimes I like to sit on Doritos
You just can’t beat the cheesy taste of Doritos
Doritos
I really really really love Doritos
Sometimes I like to sit on Doritos
You just can’t beat the cheesy taste of Doritos
I really really love Doritos
You can’t beat Doritos
I just want you to know
Doritos are my favourites
Cheesy cheesy cheesy cheese
I love Doritos
I really really love Doritos
They are my favourites
You can’t beat my Doritos

Doritos

This is how we do it down in Doritos
I just want to eat them all day
I can eat forever believe me

Doritos doritos, I love Doritos
Just not the blue ones, it’s obvious
Because my favourite flavour
Will always be cheese supreme
Don’t kid around on the subject of Doritos

Doritos doritos, I love Doritos
Just not the blue ones, it’s obvious
Because my favourite flavour
Will always be cheese supreme
Don’t kid around on the subject of Doritos

What knowledge might I need to help move towards this understanding?
I will need to understand what global warming is, why it happens, how it happens and how it can be prevented.

What is it I hope to be able to do more competently?   What skills will I need to learn (skills)
I want to learn what global warming is, why and how it happens. I want to fully understand its effect on our environment and people. I want to learn to get into regular habits that can help prevent global warming.

What learning powers will this inquiry help me practice and develop further?  (Explain this)
I will need Resilience to help me persevere through this project, which will be a challenge.
I will need Connecting to contact experts and to ask for help if I need it.
I will need Creativity to be creative when I make my creation, and I will need to be creative with my methods in researching.
I will need to use Curiosity to be truly curious about my topic and to come up with more questions throughout this project.

I will need to use Being Me to be creative and original with my ideas and research.

Solar Powered Windows

Recently, an innovation that could change the world was released. They’re windows, with solar panels integrated into the edges. The panels are at a specific angle so that they will efficiently convert the incoming light into electricity. The windows are fully transparent and still look just like normal windows. These windows are called PowerWindows, and they were invented by Ferdinand Grappenhause, at his company, called Physee.

The windows can generate 8-10 watts of power. This is enough power to charge two phones per every square metre, every day. The first installation of the PowerWindows was unveiled in June. The headquarters of Rabobank, in Eindhoven, Netherlands, was fitted with 30 square metres of PowerWindows. The bank’s employees can plug their smartphones into the windows, using USB ports to charge them. Other buildings in the Netherlands are already lined up to have PowerWindows installed.

I think these windows are a great idea. Every year we use more and more electricity in our homes and workplaces. Sooner or later, we will need to find a way to make sustainable electricity. Solar panels were an obvious way out, but the space on our roofs, which is an obvious place to put them, wasn’t enough. Putting solar panels in our windows is a great innovation, that will surely change our world for the better. I think that in 10 years time, these could be in every home and workplace in the world.

These windows could be the next innovation in sustainable electricity. They’re an amazing invention, that could really change the world.
