My Camp Experience

Here is my creation of my camp experience.
Here is what it said:
Something I found hard:
I found kayaking quite hard. I had never done it before, and it was very scary. I was a bit nervous, especially when we went over the rapids. I tried my hardest and stayed to the back of the group most of the time. I really liked going swimming in the warm water. When I finished the kayaking, I was really relieved and happy that I had finally done it.

Something I am proud of:
I am proud of my efforts in doing everything and giving everything a go. I was considering not doing the high ropes, but I still gave it my best go.

Least favourite thing:
My least favourite thing was the walk to Huka Falls. I enjoyed seeing Huka Falls, but the walk was a bit tiring! My calf muscles hurt for a while afterwards!

Most favourite thing:
My favourite thing was going to A.C. Baths. I really liked the hydroslide, and the tarzan swing. I would have preferred to have colder pools though; it did get a bit hot! It was really fun, and it was a good way to wind down after a long walk.

Funniest thing:
The funniest thing that happened to me was when Holly, Georgia, Freya and I were all playing Rubik’s Race in our cabin. We had a lot of fun, and some pretty funny things happened! Once, Georgia got really frustrated, and her voice went all high pitched!

Scariest thing:
I found doing the high ropes the scariest. I think it was mostly scary because unlike things like rides at Rainbow’s End, it actually requires you to stay balanced using your own strength. I had to rely on myself to be able to do it, which I could, but I found it really scary. Everyone told me that it would be okay, just as long as you don’t look down. Being the stupid person that I am, I looked down, which made it even more scary. I did the two ropes, and when I hit the ground, I was really happy! The next one I did was the obstacle course one. I made it about halfway up, looked down, and freaked out. I tried my hardest to complete it, but I couldn’t get much further. I came down, feeling a little bit defeated, but happy to be down.

Happiest thing:
The happiest thing for me was doing the amazing race. I really liked the mind-boggling sort of challenges, because that’s my thing. I felt like I was doing a really good job. My team was also really supportive when I got a bit tired.

Yummiest meal:
I liked the ice cream that we had on our second night. It was really delicious, and I enjoyed the sprinkles. Lots of sprinkles.

Favourite parent helper:
My favourite parent helper was Marc Lesch, Freya’s dad. He was my favourite because he drove me around everywhere, and he was really helpful and encouraging. During the Amazing Race, he was really helpful and he encouraged me even when I got a bit tired.

Favourite instructor:
My favourite instructor was Bev from Action World. I was a bit nervous about some of the activities, but she helped me and told me it was okay. She gave us some really good tips that helped us a lot throughout each of the activities.

A team member that you were impressed by...why…
I think I was really impressed by Georgia. She gave everything a go, and she was really polite and aware of others around her. She was really sensible, and she was a really fun person to be around.

Who inspired you?:
I think I was most inspired by Emma. At the high ropes, she admitted to me how scared she was, but she still did it. She inspired me to give it a go too.

What did you learn?:
I learnt how to tightrope walk (not very well…)! I made it not very far on the tightrope, but I was still pretty proud, and I learnt a lot of tips from the instructor.

What was your camp goal? Did you achieve your goal?:
My camp goal was to give everything a go, and I think I achieved that sufficiently. I gave everything a go, and gave it my best shot.

What is some advice for others who will go on camp next time?:

Give everything a go. It’s really important that you do this, because otherwise you will be wishing you had straight after the chance is gone! Give everything your best shot, and show all leadership values. Make the most of this great experience, and make sure you enjoy it.

If I Met Richie McCaw...

What would you ask him?
  1. What is the most important part of leadership and why?

I would thank Richie McCaw for helping win lots of rugby games. I would also thank him for being a great leader and inspiring many people to work hard to reach their goals.

I would also tell him about how he is a great leader, and how he is a very inspirational person. I also might ask for a selfie too...

Leadership Quote

I chose this quote about leadership because this quote is all about what makes a good leader, and a good team. It’s about how a leader has to lead, teach and help others, but it’s also about how a leader has to listen to others so that they make the right decision, and everybody feels included. A leader is someone who supports others and their ideas, and that is exactly what this quote represents.

Leadership

Mum Leader.png
I made this Tagul of my mum. My mum is really supportive of me, and she gives me help when I need it. She sets a great example for me to live up to. I would thank my mum for being there for me, and being able to help me when I need it most.

I made this Tagul to represent why I am a leader and what leadership qualities I have.

Before Camp

My goal for camp is to face some of my fears. I want to participate in everything and work on my leadership skills. I want to be a good team member and do my best in everything. I am going to camp because I want to learn some new skills and push my boundaries. I want to make some really good memories that I will remember for the rest of my life.

I think I will have an amazing camp experience because I am very resilient. I will give everything my all, even when the going gets tough. I can be myself and know my level of skill/challenge so I will know how much I should challenge myself. I am curious, so if I have a question, I will ask it, to make my level of understanding of the task as high as possible. I am creative, and I will need that so that I can think of different ways of doing things, and so I can use creative ways of problem-solving. I will need connecting so that I can work well with other people.

If I have a problem at camp, I will try to work it out myself first, but if I can’t do it myself, then I will ask somebody else. I would talk to my friends about it, but if that doesn’t work, then I will talk to an adult about my issue.

I will be an effective team member by helping out my teammates. I will listen to them, and make them feel included. You will see us having fun, and working well together as a team.

I am really excited about going to camp and I hope to have lots of fun!

Championships Night

On Wednesday I had the Championships Night at Swimming Club. I had a goal to enter every race possible for me. The first race I entered was the medley. It was really tiring, and I managed to get 2nd. The next race I entered was the one length butterfly. I’m not very good at butterfly, but I managed to get 3rd. The next race was 1 length freestyle. I got 3rd. Then in the 2 lengths free I also got third, and the three lengths I got 2nd. Next, I did backstroke. I got 3rd in the one and two lengths, and I got 3rd in the 3 lengths. Then in the 1 length breast, I got 2nd, and in the two lengths, I got 1st. Then I did the 7 lengths free, and my time was 4.45.37 and I think I got about 3rd. I really enjoyed this night, and I had lots of fun!

Thames Valley Swimming

On Wednesday the 15th of March I went to Thames Valley Swimming Sports to compete in the 50m breaststroke race. After a lot of waiting, it was finally time for my race. I found it a bit scary diving off the really high blocks because they were tilted down. When the hooter sounded, I dived in, and I felt like it was a pretty good dive. I did a really good pullout, and then I started doing breaststroke as best I could. I felt like I was doing really well, and I passed a couple of people. I got 4th in my heat, and I was really happy with that.
