The Marama Way

Waitangi Day

Waitangi Day is celebrated because of the day the Treaty Of Waitangi was signed.

The Treaty Of Waitangi was signed on the 6th of February 1840. It was signed in the Bay Of Islands; specifically in James Busby's house, now known as the Treaty House.
It was signed by about 540 chiefs. All but 39 chiefs signed the Maori copy of the treaty. There are nine different copies of the treaty, 8 in Maori and 1 in English.

The Treaty of Waitangi is the founding document of New Zealand. It was an agreement between the Maori and the British to make peace between them. Some specific words used were justice, sincerity, and good faith.

Some examples of a modern treaty might be:

A contract
Agreeing to terms and conditions
A form
Our Marama Way.

We need to remember Waitangi Day because it is an important part of our history.

My Learning Smarts 2017

To begin this school year I took the learning smarts test. My highest were all quite similar, so I have five. My highest was musical, with 88%. I think that I came out like this because I love music, and I've always been able to use music to help me remember something, and whenever I listen to music when learning, I always get it done really quickly and stay at a good pace.

My two second best smarts were Visual-Spatial and Bodily-Kinesthetic. I think that I am Visual-Spatial because I love art and planning things out in my head. Sometimes I use pictures to help me remember to do things. I like to use pictures and crafty ways to present things to others.
I think I am Bodily-Kinesthetic because I like to act, and I also really enjoy dancing. I really enjoy the drama activities we sometimes do. I also really enjoy making up games to play outside with my family. I also really enjoy netball.

My two third best are Logical-Mathematical and Intrapersonal. I think I am Logical-Mathematical because I am very good at problem-solving, and generally enjoy math. I like to do puzzles, and calculate numbers in my head. I think I am Intrapersonal because I get a lot of work done when I am on my own. I am very ambitious, and I love to set goals for myself. I like to reflect on my learning and think about what changes I need to make to be better.

I think that compared to last year, my smarts have changed a bit. Last year I was Musical, Logical-Mathematical, and Intrapersonal. Now, this year, I am Visual Spatial and Bodily-Kinesthetic. Last year, these were two of my least strong.

I really hope that this test helps with my learning and that my teachers will use this information to help me with my learning.
